The Art of Glue Color Painting Special Exhibition at Taichung City Artist Archives

Glue color painting was known as "Nihonga" or "Toyoga" during early period in Taiwan. "Toyoga" has been a popular name during the period of "Japanese occupation." Since 1977, noticing that it has long been an international custom to name a genre with the medium or material applied in the type of painting, artist Lin Chih-Chu proposed to replace “Toyoga” with “glue color painting,” such has been recognized as time being. Later, societies and competitions that related to glue color painting started to exist all over Taiwan. Ever since Lin started courses for glue color painting at the Department of Fine arts, Tung Hai University in 1985, glue color painting has officially become one of the fundamental elements of art education system, the technique of which has been increasingly diversified, while the genre itself became popular in Taiwan.
